Childbirth Classes Now Available
Stork Helpers is excited to announce that I now offer childbirth classes. I have been going to childbirth classes across Cincinnati and Dayton for the last year seeing what is currently offered in the area. I have also been talking to families about what they want out of classes and what they wish they had gotten out of a class.
One of my primary goals of teaching childbirth classes is to give a realistic perspective about the time leading up to birth, birth itself and postpartum. To talk about not only the physical aspects that you can see and feel during this time, but some of the emotion that you may experience.
To start, I will be offering five different childbirth classes. All the classes will offer many of the same topics, though some may teacher at a faster pace and some will cover topics more in depth. The topics that will mostly be covered are understanding how your body prepares for labor, the four stages of labor, relaxation techniques for dealing with fear and tension during labor, pain management, laboring positions, delivery methods, newborn hospital care, discussing postpartum and breast/bottle feeding as well as how to create birth preferences for your special day.
The five classes that I will be starting with are:
3 Week Childbirth Class: This class will be taught in two hours blocks over a period of three weeks. The class will be a more in depth class with topics mentioned above as well as activities and demonstrations for different birth and labor positions.
Date Night Childbirth Class: This class will be very similiar to the three week class, but taught in one three hour block and designed to be for couples on a "date night." We will have pizza and dessert while covering the topics, activities and demonstrations in a more fast paced environment.
Birth & Bagels Childbirth Class: This class will also be very similiar to the three week class, but taught in one three hour block on Saturday mornings. Class will start with introductions and bagels before moving into the the topics, activities and demonstrations in a more fast paced environment.
Labor Comfort Birthing Class: This class is a two hour class that is scheduled once to twice per month. The focus of this class is about different techniques to make you comfortable throughout the labor and birth process.
The class will review comfort techniques such as how to use the peanut ball, a birth ball, different labor positions, massage and how to create a relaxing environment for your birth story. At the end of the class, will be a question and answer session with your birth doula instructor to discuss any questions you may have.
Young Adults Childbirth Class: This class is aimed towards younger parents up to age 23. This is a three hour class that generally takes place on a Saturday or Sunday.
Some of the topics discussed will be understanding how your body prepares for labor, the four stages of labor, relaxation techniques for dealing with fear and tension during labor, pain management, laboring positions, delivery methods, newborn hospital care, discussing postpartum and breast/bottle feeding as well as how to create birth preferences.
