What to Pack in Your Diaper Bag
The diaper bag.
The must have of every parent when they decide to venture out of the house. Whether you are going out for a quick trip to the grocery store or out for a family day of fun, this bag comes with you wherever you go. It becomes a part of you. So we asked some new moms what are their must haves when carrying around their bag.
With those answers, we compiled a list of top answers:
Diapers/Wipes/Changing Pad: If this seems like an obvious answer, you would be right. However, you may be surprised by how many parents forget the diapers and wipes in the diaper bag. ALWAYS check the bag when you leave. The days run together and more often than not, you run out of diapers at some point in the house and “borrow” them from the bag. Then your stuck out in public with a baby in a dirty diaper and no diapers.
Plastic Bags: Babies poop when they want and its not always in the most convenient place. Sometimes, there is not bathroom or changing room nearby and you end up changing them in the car. Have some plastics bags in your bag that you can use to throw them out. You dont want that diaper sitting in your van on a 90 degree sunny day in the summer without it being tied in something to contain the smell.
Change of Clothes: This is another obvious one, but again, you dont want to be caught empty handed. Whether baby burps on their clothes or has the dreaded blowout, you always want to have a spare set of clothes. And the plastic bags mentioned above for diapers can come in handy for the dirty clothes too.
Snacks: You have 15 minutes left of grocery shopping and just need to get through this so you can get your kid home for their overdue nap. Enter the snacks! Snacks change everything and can distract from the coming meltdown. They also come in handy for something as simple as your running behind which means lunch is going to be late or simple bribery.
Sanitizer: Things happen. Sanitzer is just a must. You just never know when something is going to come up.
Tylenol/Motrin: Sometimes teething comes on strong and baby needs a little pain relief. Sometimes mama gets a headache. Make sure you have some medicine for you and your little ones.
Hair Ties: Hair up, hair down. We ask ourselves everyday which way is best. Always make sure you have a hair tie or two. Not only for your precious little one, but also for yourself. Things change quickly and this is a easy thing to pack and doesnt take up a lot of space!
Diaper Rash Cream: This is a MUST in every bag. You never know when diaper rash is gonna hit and it can be so painful your bundle of joy. Always makes sure you have some in your bag.
Bibs/Burp Cloth: Protect yourself and your sweet little one’s clothes. Babies are messy and while it is another thing to pack, you will be happy you did.
